Alleged hijackers hit six children when they were attempting to escape from first responders in Emaplanzini, Inanda, on Monday.

The hijacked vehicle which was in the Inanda area around 6.pm was tracked by the members of Reaction Unit South Africa, Tracker and the Inanda police.

The hijackers were located after the tracking device in a 2013 silver Ford Figo Ambiente that was hijacked in Parlock in Newlands was activated and it started showing signals.

The alleged hijackers immediately sped off with the vehicle when they noticed a Tracker vehicle approaching them.

The driver was very careless while driving and lost control of the hijacked vehicle.

It ran over six children who were standing on the side of the road before plummeting down a steep embankment.

The vehicle landed on its side and got stuck between two houses.

The alleged hijackers were able to get out of the vehicle and escape on foot.

However, the injured children were rushed to hospital immediately.
