Eastern Cape police have arrested a 39-year-old mother for the murder of her two-weeks old baby.
Police spokesperson, Capt Jackson Manatha on Wednesday morning said the mother was arrested in Butterworth for the alleged murder of her two weeks old son.
He added that it is suspected that the infant died on Sunday’s midnight.
Manatha said the mother had plans of disposing off the baby.
She allegedly wrapped the dead baby in a towel and small blanket and went to nearby bushes in Zithulele township.
When the police were alerted, they arrived the scene only to find the mother with the baby under the influence of alcohol
She was charged with murder and appeared briefly in the Butterworth magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
In another news, the Western Cape court sentenced a man to fifteen years in prison.
The man reportedly shot and killed a 12-year-old boy during a drug purchase in Athlone in 2018.
The police welcomed the judgement passed by the court.
