A fake doctor has been arrested in KwaZulu-Natal.

The 24-year-old was arrested for fraud after he allegedly posed as a doctor and disappeared with R40,000 belonging to his supposed colleagues.

The police arrested him on Monday morning in Babanango, northern KwaZulu-Natal.

The police revealed that the suspect was only a medical student for a year before he dropped out of school.

Police spokesperson Brig Jay Naicker explained that “an intensive investigation revealed that the man was a fake doctor and was wanted for three fraud cases committed in Secunda and Mamelodi.”

“He left the two areas and went to work at Mahlabathini as a ‘doctor’ but disappeared after three months with a sum of cash.”

“The matter was reported to the police and a case of fraud was opened at Mahlabathini police station for investigation,” said Brig Jay Naicker.

The arrested suspect led the police to an area in Mondlo where his tertiary certificates, cellphones, his tertiary gown and stethoscope were kept.

The police confiscated all the materials listed.

He has been charged to court and expected to appear in the Vryheid magistrate’s court on Tuesday.
