Free State Department of education have announced that a grade 9 pupil from Hoërskool Hennenman collapsed and died in school on Tuesday.
The department explained the event that happened before the pupil died.
The education department spokesperson, Howard Ndaba said the incident happened during an extra curricula activity where the student’s were choreographing a dance.
He said “shortly before he passed on, he complained to fellow pupils that he was feeling hot and that his heart was beating fast”.
“Towards the end of the class, he collapsed and did not regain consciousness.”
Ndaba said he died before the paramedics arrived at the school. He was declared dead by the doctor.
“As far as we know he did not have any underlying conditions and was very healthy.”
The 15-year-old lived in Virginia and just started attending the school in Hennenman.
Ndaba said officials from the department would visit his family and the school on Wednesday.
“We are waiting for the postmortem to confirm the cause of death.”
