Nine-year old Boipelo Mesi, who was declared missing over a week ago, has been found dead in a shack.

Police said her body was found in the shack which is close to her home in Kroonstad in the Free State on Saturday afternoon.

Brig. Motantsi Makhele, police spokesperson said on September 1 the little girl from Gelukwaarts was declared missing.

The mother of the child said her daughter was busy playing with friends in the neighbourhood until she disappeared.

On Saturday, some children who were busy having fun in the street noticed a “foul smell” emanating from a shack close to Mesi’s home told the community members about it.

They went to the shack and found it locked, forced entry and opened the wardrobe where the smell was coming from and found the body of Boipelo and then alerted the police.”

While busy at the scene it is alleged that the owner of the shack appeared and was attacked by the community,” he said.

Makhele said as the police arrived at the scene and wanted to intervene, they got attacked too.

However, the police were able to rescue the man from the attack, but later on, he was pronounced dead.

We appeal to the community to be calm and give the family time to mourn the loss of their daughter,” provincial commissioner Lt-Gen Baile Motswenyane said.
