Documents of Cradock municipality officials linked to the allegations of fraud and corruption of over R20 million worth of tender have been seized by Hawks.
Hawks officials stormed the Inxuba Yethemba Local Municipality on Tuesday to seize these documents.
The investigation was prompted by the alleged flouting of procurement processes rules in relation to the tender.
So many companies were awarded tenders to build and maintain roads in the municipality and also to design a community hall.
The outcome of the tender was not appealing as the contractors did not complete what is believed to be part of their duty.
The Hawks spokesperson, Philani Nkwalase explained that “These companies were allegedly paid in full for the service provided during the financial year of 2017/2018, yet the work on all projects were only partially rendered and this indicated that these projects were allegedly used to siphon off municipal funds.”
No one linked to the tenders have been arrested so far.
