Three people have been arrested in KwaZulu-Natal after they were caught in the act of stealing Telkom copper cables which worth over R100,000.
The arrest came after the Pinetown police task team received a tip off that the suspects were with stolen cables and still trying to get more illegally.
Police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele confirmed the incident.
He said after the information was received, the police “proceeded to the Mhlabunzima area in KwaDabeka where three suspects were found busy stripping copper cables.”
“They were also found with spades, chains, pickaxes and other tools suspected to be used in the commission of the offence.”
“The stolen cables were positively identified as the property of Telkom,” said Col Thembeka Mbele.”
The three men, aged 17 and 27, appeared in the Pinetown magistrate’s court on Wednesday charged with being in possession of stolen property.
