On Wednesday, Transnet finance executive Yousuf Laher made it known to the state capture commission that he was among the team that worked on the evaluation and negotiation concerning two tenders – one for 1,064 trains and the other for 100 locomotives.


On Wednesday, finance executive Yousuf Laher took the stand at the commission to respond to the state capture commission, after he was implicated by former electrical engineer – Francis Callard.

Callard also made it known to the commission that Laher instructed him to draft a memorandum for the rise in the estimated total cost of the 100 locomotives in 2014.

The project, which was awarded to China South Rail, costed between R3.8 billion to R4.8 billion.
