The police have rearrested a notorious prison breaker who escaped from an East London correctional facility.

He is expected to appear in court on Thursday.

Lundi Mzimkhulu alongside some prisoners escaped from the Sada Prison in Whittlesea in August.

He was nabbed earlier this week in Dutywa in possession of a hijacked vehicle and an illegal firearm.

Before he escaped from the prison, Mzimkhulu allegedly manhandled correctional service officers on duty at gunpoint.

He and several other inmates took a warder’s car keys, uniform jackets, and caps before escaping.

In March this year, he escaped with three other suspects on their way back from the Whittlesea Magistrates Court.

The trio allegedly overpowered two police officers, seized their firearms, and used the police van to flee.

The two other suspects were immediately apprehended while Mzimkhulu was found in Queenstown a month later.
