Johannesburg emergency services said that two children drowned in a river stream in Kliptown.
According to reports, the two children were among the 10 children who went swimming in the stream, earlier on Sunday.
Apparently, three children found it hard to swim in the water, which led to the group dispersing and called for help.
The 14-year-old girl and a 13-year-old boy succumbed to death while paramedics tried to resuscitate them.
However, an 11-year-old girl survived and was transferred to a hospital for further treatment.
EMS spokesperson Robert Mulaudzi said:
“They were confirmed dead on the scene after our resuscitation efforts failed.”
