Weight loss is not only about dieting and exercising. There are a lot more sacrifices that you need to make to meet your weight loss goals and making positive changes in your lifestyle habit is one of them.

Several small factors which we often overlook on a day-to-day basis influence our weight loss progress. So, to speed up your metabolism and stay on track, you need to be careful about your daily activities as well.

Here we have listed 5 habits that you should follow in the afternoon to stay on track and burn more calories:

1. Drink more water

Dehydration is often confused with hunger. When you do not drink enough water, you feel hungry, irritated, lazy and this even leads to headache. So before grabbing a packet of wafers, drink a tall glass of water to see if you are really hungry or just dehydrated. You can also swap your regular glass of water with infused water.

2. Eat your lunch in peace

While eating your lunch, your entire focus should be on your food. No scrolling on social media pages, no replying to emails or checking the Twitter feed. The 15 minutes that you take out in the afternoon to have your meal should be spent without any distractions. This is one of the best ways to practise mindful eating and prevent overeating, the two habits commonly associated with weight gain. It is best to have your meal alone when trying to shed kilos.

3. Listen to your hunger

It is common to brush aside the feeling of hunger when you are swamped with work. What most people do not know is this can leave you famished after a while and you will end up overeating during your lunchtime. To prevent this, you need to plan your meal carefully. Have small snacks in between your big meals to keep yourself going.

4. Be careful with licks and bites

Again, while having snacks in between your meals, make sure that you do not overindulge. A handful of wafers or a bite of sandwich from your friend’s plate might not seem a big issue to you, but it is certainly not good for your weight loss plan. This will increase your calorie count of the day, thereby sabotaging your weight loss plan.

5. Get moving

Instead of just sitting down after having your meal, take a 15-minute walk. Walking after your lunch is not only beneficial for your weight loss but will also prevent mid-day slump. The more steps you will take, the more calories you will burn, your mood will get better and your concentration levels will increase.
