Wherever you decide to take your relationship advice from; be it from the Internet, close friends or family members, take everything with a pinch of salt.
It is important to remember that sometimes, what may work for one person won’t work for the other. Everyone speaks from their own experiences.
It may or may not work for you but there are some advices that shouldn’t even be said at all. Nobody in their right senses should be giving them. Here are 4 of them:
1. You shouldn’t have to tell them what you need; if they love you, they’ll know
Your partner isn’t a magician, let alone mind reader. Communication is key! There’s no reason why you can’t be vocal about what you need. As you’re there can you guess what your partner needs? What if what you think they need has nothing to do with their actual needs? Speak out.
2. Don’t make the first move
If you like someone, go after the person, no matter your gender. Women are made to think that’s the man’s job but really think about it. What if he hasn’t noticed you yet? Why not just make the first move so he notices you exist?
3. You should lower your standards
If anyone encourages you to settle, knowing very well that you won’t be happy when you do, then they aren’t thinking of your best interests at heart especially when your standards have nothing to do with money or looks or other superficial things but are based on core values.
4. You can change him/her
This is one mistake you cannot afford to make especially when it comes to marriage. Most grownups are already set in their ways and unless they themselves want to change, they won’t. Don’t be deceived. Most of the time, what you see is what you get.
