A job is necessary to earn money, which in turn is important for survival. From food to clothes to education to healthcare – all come at a price.


This puts the added pressure on all of us to work hard and earn more money. However, what if you hate your job and don’t like it at all? Or what if your boss is making your life difficult?

When you find it extremely tiresome to wake up and get to your work every day, something is not right. It might be a signal that you are not enjoying what you do.

To shed more light on this, here is a look at signs it’s time to quit your job.

1. You are not following your passion

When you are passionate about your work, you get a greater sense of purpose and fulfillment. This often results in higher rates of productivity and better outcomes. However, if your work feels monotonous and more like a ‘job’ than a career, something’s wrong. If you don’t feel excited about your work or the work your company is doing, consider looking for another position.

2. The work environment is unhealthy

An unhealthy work environment affects both your professional and personal happiness. Examples of an unhealthy work environment include controlling management practices, distrust, and dishonesty among senior leaders, public shaming and harassment of employees, etc. If you find yourself in such an environment, it’s time to quit your job.

3. You are underusing your skills

A job that doesn’t challenge you is one you shouldn’t be doing. Staying in such a situation may limit your growth potential along with leading to feelings of complacency or frustration.

4. Your company is moving towards a bad future

All companies experience ups and downs, so if your company is in an unpleasant position, try not to worry. However, if it looks like the unpleasant situation is bound to grow worse in the coming years, getting out early is advisable. Start looking for a new opportunity now, while you have some control.

Being undervalued is a problem if your accomplishments aren’t recognized or if your ongoing work isn’t appreciated. Your boss and co-workers should see you as an integral part of the team and recognize you when you have done exceptional work. If you are unappreciated, you deserve the chance to look for a position where you are appreciated.

6. You are under-compensated

If you are significantly under-compensated at your job, you should consider leaving. Being under-compensated can reflect a mismatch between what you and your company perceive to be your value and growth potential. Staying in this situation can also lead to frustration or resentment.

7. You don’t fit the culture

Company culture can make or break your work experience. When you fit in with the tone, the dress, the attitudes, and the behaviors of your workplace, everything seems easier and you will be able to work better. If your own work preferences are at odds with the culture, you are never going to be successful as an employee there.
