American actor Michael Kenneth Williams was found dead on Monday in his home in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn.
The 54-year-old was best known for his role as Omar Little on HBO’s “The Wire.”
A law official confirmed to CNN that he was found dead in his New York City apartment.
The cause of his death is yet to be revealed, but investigators found drug paraphernalia near his body,
Michael’s long-time rep Marianna Shafran of Shafran PR said: “It is with deep sorrow that the family announces the passing of Emmy nominated actor Michael Kenneth Williams. They ask for your privacy while grieving this unsurmountable loss.”
Speaking about the scar on his face, he narrated the cause to NPR in 2014: At 25 years old, Mr. Williams got the scar that became his signature physical feature and that helped to define him as an actor. He was spending his birthday at a bar in Queens when a man slashed his face with a razor blade during a fight. After that, directors no longer wanted him as a backup dancer; they wanted him in “thug roles.”
