Nausea and vomiting are a common symptom of pregnancy but they can be troublesome if you experience them often.

Vomiting episodes usually show up one month into the pregnancy and can last for about three months.

And while it’s a common symptom, repeated episodes of vomiting can dehydrate you and make you all tired and fatigued.

However, there are some remedies for vomiting that you can try to feel better. Here’s a list of them below:

1. Drink water

Morning sickness and vomiting can dehydrate you (and tire you out). So drink a lot of water to keep yourself hydrated. If you vomit frequently, drinking water will help retain the essential salts and minerals in your body. Try to drink at least 8-12 glasses of water in a day to keep yourself hydrated and to keep your digestive system working smoothly. You can also suck on ice cubes to prevent the feeling of nausea and vomiting.

2. Drink ginger tea

Consuming ginger is one of the best natural remedies for vomiting during pregnancy. The smell and taste of ginger can help with the feeling of nausea and vomiting. Ginger can also improve your digestion and reduce the acidity in your stomach. There are several ways in which you can incorporate ginger in your diet to curb vomiting. You can chew on small pieces of ginger, take grated ginger with a spoonful of honey, eat ginger candy or cookies, or drink ginger tea.

Ginger tea works best for many – so here is the recipe to make this healthy beverage!

  • Boil 2 cups of water then add 1 tsp of grated ginger to it.
  • Let it boil for some time, then strain in a cup.
  • Add 1 tsp of honey to it, stir, and drink warm.

3. Try peppermint

This herb has a calming effect on the stomach and it can provide relief from vomiting too. Peppermint too can be consumed in many ways. You can simply chew on peppermint leaves or eat peppermint candy. You can even sprinkle a few drops of peppermint essential oil on a handkerchief and keep smelling it whenever you feel pukish. And just like drinking ginger tea, you can also drink peppermint tea – here is the recipe to make peppermint tea. However, do check with your doctor before drinking this tea.

  • Take 2 cups of water in a saucepan and bring it to a boil.
  • Add dried peppermint leaves to boiling water then add a teaspoon of honey to it.
  • Drink this concoction in the morning for relief from nausea.

4. Eat oranges

Oranges contain citric acid which helps relieve nausea as soon as inhaled. Also, oranges are craved by a lot of women during pregnancy. You can simply inhale oranges or sip orange juice to alleviate the vomiting sensation.

5. Lemon water always works!

Owing to its citrus fruity flavour, lemon provides instant relief from nausea during pregnancy. Lemon is also rich in minerals which can help improve your overall well-being. Just squeeze half a lemon into one glass of warm water and add a teaspoon of honey and drink this juice daily in the morning. Alternatively, you can also inhale lemon essential oil sprinkled on a handkerchief for instant relief.

6. Try apple cider vinegar

Apple cider vinegar has antimicrobial properties and is rich in essential acids. It neutralizes the acid in the stomach and maintains the pH of the body, thereby curbing the feeling of nausea and vomiting. Apple cider vinegar is considered best to cure acute vomiting issues during pregnancy. You can consume it in the morning by mixing one teaspoon of apple cider vinegar and honey with warm water.

7. Cloves can help too!

Cloves can provide relief from diarrhoea, indigestion and nausea in pregnant women and the best part is cloves are readily available. You can chew on a clove bud whenever you feel like vomiting. Alternatively, you may add 2-3 cloves to boiling water or tea to make a clove tea and drink to get instant relief from morning sickness.
