Personal hygiene is one of the major ways of protecting yourself from colds, flu and other infectious diseases.
Your risk of contracting infectious diseases can be limited and at the same time improve your overall wellness by sticking to these simple and stress-free personal hygiene habits:
1. Hand washing
Washing your hands cannot be overemphasized because your hands are used for almost everything you do.
Wash your hands with soap and water, when you return from work or an outing, after using the bathroom, after disposing of garbage, after coughing or sneezing, before preparing food and after meals.
Doing these prevents you from spreading bacteria to your loved ones, even contaminating your meals.
2. Brush and floss twice a day
Doctors educate us that ideally, we’re supposed to brush our teeth and floss after every meal but brushing twice a day can save us from accumulating bacteria in our mouth and reduce the chances of future tooth decay.
In addition, make an appointment with the dentist at least every six months for a checkup.
3. Washing your bath towel
A lot of people use their towels daily and yet they fail to wash them even when they notice the color of their towel that was cream has turned brown. It is important to wash your bath towels after three uses. If you shower every day, that means towel laundry must be done twice a week.
Regular laundry of towels is sufficient to remove any germs that are beginning to accumulate and you can prevent germs from growing on your bath towel by letting it air dry after each use.
4. Keep your nails neat
Ensure your finger and toenails are well-trimmed and neat to avoid problems like; injury, poor circulation, ill-fitting shoes, infection-eczema and psoriasis.
5. Body wash
Endeavour to shower or bathe every day especially the vital areas like under your armpits, genitals and anus but you may need to wash sensitive body parts with plain water or saltwater. Always apply deodorant to your armpits to prevent body odor.
Ultimately, personal hygiene is a very important habit which every individual needs to inculcate for overall wellness.
