5 things that change as we transition from kids to adults

As Gen-Z kids sail into the roaring twenties, we can not help but look back and reminisce on how smooth and unproblematic life was as kids.

Or how some things we upheld we now consider silly. Perhaps some things we totally dismissed as kids but now, as young adults, we greatly value.

Here are five of them.

Growing up, we lived for sneaking away with spare change from our parents’ purses, to buy biscuits, bubble gum or candy. We would spend good money on knockouts, balloons, and toys during festive holidays. A surge of dopamine was the automatic response to lavishing cash for the slightest reason. But now, as adults, it is the opposite. Whether for bills, accommodation, family functions, or vehicle maintenance, every adult could relate to the heart squeezing feel that comes with a debit alert.

Friends were the currency of our juvenile days. Friends to play kids games and be a hundred and one per cent vulnerable with. However, as we mature, we realize that people’s motives are often selfish. Our adult perceptions see through people’s actions and are very discerning of the impacts of certain associations. What was once a free-for-all space is now a tense circle where every man and woman is for themselves. Also, considering that everyone is going through their tumultuous adulting experiences, No one has time to play anymore. Everyone is busy.

As kids, our movements were heavily restricted. But as adults, living independently or with flat mates, no one tells us when to come in or go out. While this unlimited liberty was a dream come true for our juvenile minds, growing up, we’ve realized that we were freer just being mummy and daddy’s good little child. Now we are restricted not by strict parents or guardians anymore but by stricter elements; like self-discipline, daily routines, academics, work schedules and unyielding deadlines.

This a famous saying we recited in Kindergarten school; Health is Wealth. Then it was just a figure of speech being thrown around, but now it is a pledge to live by. As kids, any diet would suffice to fill an empty belly, but as adults, we become more conscious of what we put in our bodies, the products we apply on our skin, detoxification, regular checkups, and becoming gym rats to maintain our desired physique.

Whether as Christians or Muslims, we went to church or mosques out of obligation and due to parents backgrounds. However, as our minds mature, we begin to ask some questions, we begin to seek God for ourselves, not because mummy and daddy force you to, but because you simply want to.
