5 food items one should never refrigerate

We refrigerate our food to make sure that the quality doesn’t degrade and the food remains intact, but there are certain foods that we need to stop refrigerating right now!

This is because refrigerating certain food items can make them lose their nutritional value and also lead to a drastic change in the taste and flavour.

Believe it or not there are some foods that may even get spoiled after refrigerating them for months.

To avoid such circumstances, here’s a list of food items that don’t require refrigeration.

1. Unripe mangoes

Raw mangoes should never be refrigerated as cooling slows down the process of ripening. It also makes the mango hard in texture. In fact, it is advised to store only ripened mangoes as it helps in keeping them firm, sweet and fresh.

2. Oil

Keeping oil inside the fridge can change its texture and even the colour. Storing oil in a fridge makes it appear cloudy and impacts the flavour.

3. Cooked chicken

Refrigerating cooked chicken for more than two to three days spoils it. Not only does the taste change, but storing in cold temperatures spoils the texture as well as the flavour. Eating refrigerated and cooked chicken can pave the way for food poisoning and several other digestive issues.

4. Honey

Honey has a long shelf life and it doesn’t get spoiled while out at normal room temperature. Whereas, storing honey inside the refrigerator crystalizes it and turns hard to scoop it out of the jar.

5. Herbs

Fresh herbs like mint and coriander shouldn’t be stored inside the fridge as the leaves tend to wilt away. The high moisture content of the herbs evaporate while sitting in the fridge and thus they end up getting spoiled and soggy. The best way to store them is by keeping them in a paper bag after sorting the leaves.
