What does the shell consist of?

As per studies, the outer covering of the egg consists of calcium carbonate, proteins, and other minerals. It has been found that every single shell is approximately 40 percent calcium, with each gram offering 381–401 mg. And if we go by the National Center for Biotechnology Information report, half an eggshell can help meet an adult’s daily need for calcium.

1. Good for bone health

The rich amount of calcium carbonate found in eggshells helps build and keep bones safe. Also, the shells are a great source of magnesium, fluoride, and other essential minerals.

2. Reduces the risk of osteoporosis

A health condition that weakens the bones, osteoporosis affects millions worldwide. A calcium-deficient diet, owing to inadequate intake over time, may lead to this condition, which is usually associated with old age. You can take the necessary actions to keep osteoporosis at bay. The rich calcium content found in eggshells not only reduces the risk of the disease, but also helps strengthen the bones and add to their density.

3. Beneficial in joint health

It is suggested to consume the egg membrane, which is between the shell and the actual egg, and is visible only when you peel open a boiled egg. While consuming eggshells in powdered form, do not remove the membrane, as it has been proven to help improve the joints’ health.
