How to use gadgets without making your eyes suffer

Keeping off the devices and screens isn’t possible anymore.

Whether you’re completing your projects before the deadline or binge-watching your favorite series, your eyes deal with a lot of damage.

Long exposure to screens can cause eye strain, dry eyes, and redness too. To reduce the impact of screens on your eyes, follow these 5 simple steps:

1. Try the 20-20-20 rule

Your eyes aren’t designed to look straight into the screen all day. You need to give them some rest in between work or leisure. Especially, give your eyes a rest when using display screens. Use the 20-20-20 principle. Take a 20-second break every 20 minutes to fix your gaze on someplace at least 20 feet away.

2. Sit in a well-lit room

If you’re guilty of using your phone hidden under the blanket, you got to stop. High-frequency blue light affects more when used in low ambient light. The eyes are friendly to warm light. Filtered natural light, incandescent, and LED light are all included in this. To maintain adequate lighting, distribute lighting across your house and office.

3. Control the glare

Avoid setting your monitor in front of a window or a white wall, and draw the blinds or shades. Put a screen cover over it that is anti-glare. Or use anti-glare glasses that are blue light reflective. Think about dimming some or all of the overhead lighting. Use an adjustable desk lamp if you need light for writing or reading.

4. Keep your distance from the screen

It is advised to keep your computer screen between 16 and 30 inches (40 to 76 centimetres) from your eyes. Smartphones should also be held at a distance when using them. One of the most troublesome side effects of being too close to screens is computer vision syndrome (also called digital eye strain).

5. Adjust the screen settings

Ensure that your gadgets are configured for eye comfort. To make your screen more eye-friendly, increase the screen’s contrast and increase the size of the text font too. Adjust the screen’s brightness so that it doesn’t contrast in brightness or darkness with the surroundings. Reduce the screen’s colour temperature. Set a fast refresh rate for your devices.
