Cancel culture has significantly marred the lives of many, especially entertainers.

Over the past decades, we have witnessed the fall of many talents due to this movement, as fans and well-wishers withdraw their support, hence, leading to the disapproval of the celebrity.


People have fallen into depression, lost money, gigs, deals, family, friends, self-esteem, and other good things due to this cancel culture.

The South African entertainment industry is no novice to this movement, as some celebrities have taken to killing themselves after being cancelled, most especially on social media platforms.

This article will not be focusing on cancel culture as a topic but on the Mzansi celebrities affected by cancel culture.

1. KELLY KHUMALO

Kelly suffered in the hands of trolls, and further got cancelled after the death of her late lover, Senzo Meyiwa, who was shot dead in her home in 2014. The singer is yet to get a breather since Senzo died till death as people seek justice; desiring to know who killed the star. Kelly Khuamalo has suffered loss of deals and gigs due to this incident, but her music career seems to be doing well.

2. KATLEGO MABOE

The TV presenter was asked to quit his TV presenting job; he lost on hosting duties and other deals after his ex-wife, Monique Muller accused him of infidelity and assault. She opened a case against him, but his innocence was declared by the court, and he is gradually picking up career-wise after he had hit rock bottom.

3. AMANDA BLACK

Amanda Black is known to be vocal about various topics, and her consistency at speaking against authorities, including against the COVID vaccine led to her experience of being cyberbullied.

4. BABES WODUMO

The Gqom queen was greatly loved and had a laudable number of fans, however, she got cancelled for forgiving Mampintsha who assaulting her. Many felt betrayed by her act of forgiveness. The saga affected her music career as people withdrew their support.

Lady Zamar still faces cyberbullying, and her mental health has suffered greatly from cancel culture. The singer got cancelled after the court’s ruling favoured her ex-boyfriend Sjava. She opened a case of rape against the musician, but lack of evidence made her lost the case.
