Lukewarm water with a few drops of lemon juice — this popular morning fitness mantra might be passé, as health enthusiasts and nutritionists are bypassing this health drink and starting their day with unique shots and drinks instead.
After the body comes out of hibernation and dehydration in the morning, it mostly just needs water (warm or room temperature).
However, a health shot helps, more so when it’s geared towards you and your body condition specifically.
Below are 5 recipes to healthy shots that work like magic.
1. Orange, lemon and turmeric shot

Ingredients

  • 1 Nagpur orange
  • 1 lemon
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh turmeric
  • 3 tbsp chopped fresh ginger
  • 1/8 tsp fresh black pepper
  • 1/4 tsp oil extra virgin
  • Coconut oil
Method
Blend turmeric, ginger, orange and lemon juice in a mixie. To this, add 1 tablespoon of water, black pepper, and coconut oil. Mix it for another 30 seconds. Then strain the mix through a small fine-mesh strainer. Divide between two serving glasses.
Benefits
The coconut oil and black pepper help in the absorption of the curcumin in the body. Curcumin is the active ingredient in turmeric, which is a potent anti-inflammatory element, perfect for reducing stress.


The citrus and ginger flavours feel good in the morning. The shot is full of antioxidants and nutrients, and, thus, is a great way to pack nutrition into your morning regime. You can easily skip the sugary, processed breakfast cereal and have some oats, fruits and nuts along with your juice shot.

2. Green shot
Ingredients
  • 60 ml room temperature water
  • 1/2 tsp of moringa powder
  • 1/2 tsp of wheatgrass
  • powder
  • 1/2 tsp spirulina powder
  • 1/4 lemon juice
Method
Mix all the three powders together and slowly add water to make a thick paste. Squeeze the lemon juice into it.
Benefits
Spirulina is extremely high in many nutrients, and it is also a powerful antioxidant with anti-inflammatory properties. Apart from giving you vitamin C, lime also makes the shot taste a lot better. This all-green shot is equal to having a bowl of salad.
Please note
Since your body might not be able to adjust to all the three powders in one go. It is better to start with one green powder and work your way to the other two.
3. Chilli and lime shot
Ingredients
  • 60ml hot water
  • A pinch of chilli powder
  • 1 lemon juice
Method
Mix all the ingredients, and your shot is ready.

Limes are a good source of magnesium and potassium. It stimulates the liver, which is affected by alcohol and greasy foods. This shot also helps to boost metabolism and aid in digestive health. This shot helps to keep your liver healthy.
4. Apple, carrot, ginger, beetroot juice shot
Ingredients
1 medium-sized beetroot, scrubbed clean and top trimmed; 1 medium cucumber, rinsed; 1 carrot, scrubbed clean and top trimmed; 1/2 Kashmiri apple, seeds and core removed; 5 gms fresh ginger, scrubbed clean; 1 lemon juice
Method
Mix all the ingredients in a juicer, and then divide it between two short glasses.

Beetroots are full of vitamin C&K and carrots are high in Vitamin C&A. Cucumbers are hydrating and full of minerals. “With this, you are getting the vitamins and minerals from a wide range of colourful fruits and vegetables,” adds Sarah.
5. Detox vitamin water or alkaline water
Ingredients
Left over fruits like orange peel, ginger ends, pineapple, strawberry ends, mint and lemon.
Method
Soak all leftover fruits and peels overnight. Strain it in the morning and your infused water is ready to be consumed.
Benefits
Vitamin water is a healthy and nutritional alternative to drinking high-sugar juices or sodas. Homemade vitamin water is healthy and inexpensive, who adds that one can add chia, apple cider vinegar, moringa powder in regular water for similar effect.
