One of the first things all fitness trainers suggest is to buy the right gear for the kind of workout you want to do.
The most important of the gear are the kind of shoes you need. It is obvious that not every kind of shoe is suitable for every kind of workout.
The kind of sneakers you wear for running will be very different from the one you should if you take up CrossFit training.
The wrong shoe can cause injuries and uncalled for stress on your muscles which effectively destroys the desired outcome of the workout.
However, sometimes, it can get hard to decide on the right kind of sneakers. Here is a shoe guide that best suit different kinds of workout from running to weightlifting.
1. CrossFit training
CrossFit training is a combination of medium weightlifting, jump ropes, box jumps, running and rowing. It is advised to opt for flat-soled shoes with very less cushioning. This helps you maintain the solid surface you require to help engage your larger muscles rather than small stabilizer muscles when weightlifting. Shoes with cushioning allow room for error if you do something incorrectly with the weights. However, it is important to remember that some degree of cushioning is necessary to absorb the impact of jumps.
2. Running
It is the hardest to get the right kind of shoe for when you want to run. The bottom line of choosing the right kind of running shoes is that they should be comfortable. Make sure your shoes are supportive, well-cushioned and a little heavy. It is also advisable to pick a shoe with a foam sole. For running, you need a shoe that is snug from the hindfoot and the midfoot but has room towards the toes. A good way to gauge if you have the correct shoe is that it should be half to three-quarters of an inch longer than your longest toe.
3. Cardio
For cardio-based exercises, especially dance-based cardio, make sure your shoes support your foot properly. The more the support, the better it is. As dance involves a lot of movement in all planes of motion, it is important that your shoes should support your knees and joints. Look for shoes with extra cushioning at the heel and also the arch of the foot.
4. Boxing
Boxing requires you to use the strength of your heels and your toes. It is important that the shoe is comfortable on your toes and provides adequate support to your ankles. Your shoes can neither be too loose from the ankle nor too flat which can give you numb toes. You can look for shoes that are specifically designed for boxing.
5. HIIT
This type of workout requires shoes that provide extra support especially for the ankles. High-intensity interval training requires shoes that are supportive, flexible and light. They help you be in control while you work out.
6. Weightlifting
For weightlifting, it is recommended to buy shoes that are very flat and tight on your foot. Your shoes need to provide you with all the support to help you lift those heavyweights. Shoes that are designed for weightlifting are flat on the sole with no cushioning and have a solid elevated heel to help you maintain your posture.
