Crystal Tlali goes from being Soweto Gospel choir lead singer to an alcoholic

Crystal Tlali recent condition caused a stir on social media, as she looked wasted and tattered in a video that went viral.

The former Soweto Gospel Choir lead singer is renowned for her captivating and soul-stirring performances of the song Modimo Re Boka Wena.


Crystal reportedly moved back to her home in QwaQwa in the Free State after she lost her job in Gauteng, and she’s been an alcohol addict, which has affected her.

Manini Tlali (57) the mother of the singer said to Zimoja in an interview that she wants her daughter back.

“She is a talented young woman who is good at what she does and I know that when she gets sober, she will be back to the daughter I know and also be able to take care of her son,” Manini said.

A family member said, “It is not nice to come back home after you have been a superstar star touring abroad. We need someone to help her as she wakes up early and starts drinking. She is a mere shadow of her former self.”

The publication reported that organisations, DJs, and churches have reached out to Crystal to help her, and she’s grateful for the love and help.

“The support I have received has been tremendous and I am grateful for the love. I need prayers,” she said
