A police constable who went missing has returned home.
Her family reportedly claimed that she was kidnapped.
Western Cape Police said the 22-year-old Sindiswa Rum was reunited with her loved ones on the evening of Wednesday, 12 August 2020.
“Kindly be advised that the missing Sindiswa Rum has been found late last night and has since been reunited with her family”, the SAPS said in a short tweet on Thursday, 13 August 2020.
SAPS is yet to disclose the circumstances surrounding her return and there is also no information about launching any investigation on her disappearance.
Rum was reported missing on Tuesday evening by her mother when she realized that she was not home.
She had worked the overnight shift that day and left her workplace in the morning.
“She was reported missing on Tuesday, 11 August 2020 at around 22:00 by her mother after she failed to return home from nightshift which ended at 05:00 that morning.”
“It is believed that constable Rum left the police station in civilian clothes with an unknown person in a white vehicle. Her cellular telephone has since been switched off and attempts to trace her have been unsuccessful”, said police spokesperson Colonel Andrè Traut at the time of her disappearance.
Rum’s uncle, Simon Nkanunu, said they received a test message from his niece, in which she informed them that she was not in danger, but said they were still uneasy.
“She received a message on WhatsApp saying ‘Mama I’m safe’, which we think was a trick”
The uncle said when they called when they called her, they heard her screaming in the background.
The police is yet to disclose any information about her disappearance.
