A man who allegedly reported himself to the police after shooting and killing his wife in Eastern Cape has been denied bail.

The court refused bail for Lubabalo Magwebu who surrendered himself to the police on Wednesday after he shot his wife following a heated argument between them in Dimbaza.

His offence was termed “serious”.

On Friday, the police in a statement said “it is alleged that sometime last week Lubabalo Magwebu and his wife had an argument which led to the wife leaving their matrimonial home.”

“She went to her parents’ home which is also in Dimbaza [King William’s Town].”

Magwebu and his wife met on the street two days after the argument.

On meeting, the estranged couple had another quarrel which allegedly prompted the incident.

He allegedly brought out a firearm and shot his wife.

She died immediately from the gunshot wounds.

“The court denied him bail as the offence is serious and releasing him on bail would undermine public confidence in the criminal justice system.”

“This comes after Magwebu handed himself and his firearm over to police at the Dimbaza Police Station on Wednesday,” said the police.

Magwebu is expected to appear again in court on September 6.
