Two police officers have been left with injuries after they opened fire against each other.
The shoot-out ensued between two different units deployed to a business in East London.
The incident happened on Buffalo Street when members of the K9 and crime prevention units exchanged fire with crime intelligence and provincial organised crime units.
Two SAPS members were injured during the shoot-out.
It is suspected to have been triggered by a case of mistaken identity
The injured officers are currently in the hospital.
Independent police investigative directorate (Ipid) spokesperson Ndileka Cola has also been notified of the incident.
