Mother of Mtwalume murderer says her son deserves it

The mother of suspected Mtwlume murderer who allegedly committed suicide while in police custody have said if her son was truly guilty of the offence then, he deserved what he got.

The 41-year-old man who was arrested following the murders of five women whose bodies were dumped in different bush lands in Mtwalume, on KwaZulu-Natal’s south coast committed suicide after confessing to the crimes.


The 62-year-old widow was emotionally depressed with the allegations leveled against her son, Mduduzi Mafutha Khomo.

“What pains me the most is that I am now left in this situation. It’s painful for me to hear what they say he did to other people’s children. It pains me as a mother.”

She said the incident has made the family scared for their life because news going around the community wants the family to be banished

“…people said we should be cast out of the community. If that’s the case, where are we going to go?” she said.

She said she was saddened by the news and was heartbroken. She said she would prefer to die instead of living with the stigma that her son committed those crimes.

“He deserved it. I even said to the community that my son should die so that I could be at peace with myself.”

The mother said her son was not a tyrant.

The last time she saw him was three months ago when he came to show his family members his new uniform.

“He was wearing his security uniform. I told him he looked beautiful in that uniform – he was looking like his father. That was the last time I saw or spoke to him,” she said.

She said he obtained his grade 9 certificate from Mtwalume High School abefore getting a job to support his family.
