SA’s COVID-19 total cases closing in to 600k mark

159 people have been proclaimed dead in South Africa from Coronavirus, this brings the death toll to 12,423

The health ministry announced that they’ve detected 3,916 new infections within the span of 24 hours.


Since the outbreak of coronavirus in March, the number of positive cases is just over 596,000.

On Wednesday, after the announcement of the update on coronavirus deaths (which currently stands at 159), the number of people who have succumbed to COVID-19 has risen to 12,423.

The recovery rate is at a constant percentage, which is 82%.

However, Professor Salim Karim, the chair of the COVID-19 ministerial advisory committee mentioned that his concern is fixed on the possible spread of COVID-19 since the onset of level 2 lockdown.

He further said he has been having “sleepless nights” about a second wave of infections if the country loses its guard.
