The court has set a trial date for the three alleged Isis members accused of the murder of two elderly botanists in 2018.

The trial date for the matter has been set to 2021.

The trio; Sayfudeen Aslam Del Vecchio‚ his wife Fatima Patel and their Malawian boarder, Ahmad “Bazooka” Mussa, appeared briefly in the Durban high court on Monday.

It was then decided that the case will be presented for trial between January 18 and February 18.

They were charged with kidnapping, murder and theft.

They kidnapped and murdered a British-born Cape Town botanists Rod and Rachel Saunders in February 2018.

They also face charges of theft and counts which was related to the contravention of the Protection of Constitutional Democracy Against Terrorist and Related Activities Act.

The police arrested them less than a week after the elderly botanists went missing.

They were found at Del Vecchio’s hilltop camp in the foothills of the Endlovini area, in northern KwaZulu-Natal.

Police allege that Del Vecchio was behind the planning and execution of the killings.

The accused later changed his legal aid and hired a new advocate, Jimmy Howse to defend him in court.

However, no one knows who is paying their legal fees.
