Police Minister, Bheki Cele gave reports on the investigation on the suicide case of the murderer accused of killing five women in Mthwalume, KwaZulu-Natal.
He said the Independent Police Investigative Directorate confirmed that there was no foul play attached to the death of the suspect and it was true that the suspect indeed committed suicide shortly after confessing to the crime.
According to him, IPID said “the the autopsy led to solid confirmation”.
Two men were taken into custody to answer questions following the discovery of the bodies of five women murdered in Mthwalume.
One allegedly confessed to killing four of the five women before he was found dead by the police.
LPID decided to investigate the circumstances surrounding the death of the suspect after he was found hanging from a shower-head.
The suspect made use of a string from his tracksuit pants to hang himself.
When the medics arrived the holding cells, they declared him dead on scene.
The two suspects booked for confession were detained at the Scottburgh police station.
The murdered women aged between 16 to 36 were found in sugarcane fields in the Mthwalume area.
The matter is currently before the courts with the suspect facing murder charges.
