Manhunt for suspect following CIT robbery and shootout in Vanderbijlpark

Police have launched a manhunt for the search of suspects who were involved in a cash-in-transit robbery and shoot-out with police in Vanderbijlpark on Monday.

The suspects fled the scene in seven vehicles after a shootout with police officers.


Police spokesperson, Lieutenant Colonel Brenda Muridili, said the incident happened between 07.05am and 07.10am on the R553 Golden Highway.

He  said “a cash truck with three occupants was traveling north when it was rammed by an oncoming vehicle.”

“The truck overturned.”

The armed suspects made use of explosives to open up the armoured vehicle.

The impact of the incident got the driver and the crew members injured. They were taken to the hospital for medical attention.

A police vehicle came around during the cause of the robbery. The armed suspects immediately fired at them.

The police officers had to call for backup. Fortunately, no officer got injured.

The suspects fled the scene with an undisclosed amount of money in seven vehicles.
