The Independent Police Investigative Directorate (Ipid) has confirmed the arrest of two police officers in connection to Nathaniel Julius’ death in Eldorado Park.
The police investigative unit said the arrested two officers will face charges of murder and defeating the ends of justice.
On Wednesday, Julius was shot in the area and gave up the ghost the next day. The police claimed it was during a shooting spree between officers and gangsters that he got shot.
However, the family revealed that the information given about Julius’ death was false. It was said that due to his inability (having Down Syndrome) to respond to answers from the police, he was gunned down.
The police directorate mentioned that after careful investigation and obtained evidence, it made the decision to arrest the two police involved.
Ndileka Cola, Ipid’s spokespeson said:
“Ipid has, after careful consideration of the information and evidence at hand, taken to detain the two members of the SAPS arrested in the alleged shooting which occurred in Eldorado Park on Wednesday.”
