Doctors accused of culpable homicide have case postponed again

Two medical specialist who appeared in court on Monday have had their case postponed for further investigations.

Paediatric surgeon, Prof Peter Beale aged 73,  and anaesthetist Dr Abdulhay Munshi aged 56, are charged with culpable homicide relating to the death of 10-year-old Zayyaan Sayed.


The case against them was postponed till November 16 for further investigations by the Johannesburg magistrate’s court.

The two well known doctors were blamed for the death of a 10 year old patient who died following a medical surgery.

The child died in October 2019 at Netcare’s Park Lane Clinic.

Zayyaan Sayed death came hours after Beale performed what ought to be a routine laparoscopic operation to stop reflux.

Beale, who practises at Life Brenthurst Clinic described his suspension as a “knee-jerk” reaction.

He claimed that the death was not his fault.

“It’s tragic, but it’s not my fault,” he explained.

The two specialists are currently out on R10,000 bail each.
