The National Education, Health and Allied Workers’ Union (Nehawu) is planning to launch strike against the National Student Financial Aid Scheme (NSFAS).
The strike is focused on the need for wage increase.
This decision was born after the union failed to reach a favourable agreement with their employer, NSFAS.
The workers under Nehawu are demanding an eight percent salary increase because of the economic crisis but NSFAS claimed that the scheme is also facing a hard time.
Despite the scheme’s plea saying it has been affected by the pandemic, the workers are still not giving in to the claims.
Nehawu indicated that NSFAS received some funds before the nationwide lockdown and ever since, it had not been accounted for.
The workers union also made it known that they want NSFAS administrator Randall Carolissen to step down.
The workers accused him of plunging the student financial aid into crisis.
