National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (Numsa) made it open that workers in the aviation sector have not received funds from the UIF benefits to workers for over two months.
The union said it’s deeply concerned as thousands of workers were affected by the non payment of the temporary relief scheme.
Earlier this month, the UIF indicated that disbursement of TERS funds would be shutdown temporarily due to the financial mismanagement investigation ongoing in order to adjust the weakened system.
Numsa was of the opinion that the department did not tell when the disbursement of the special coronavirus grants would continue.
According to Numsa spokesperson, Phakamile Hlubi-Majola, it is the department’s duty to correct these flaws in the system, without it affecting the workers.
“The department needs to speedily resolve its processes. Our members are suffering and it’s wrong that workers who had nothing to do with the fraud are paying the highest price.”
