A manhunt has been launched by Orange Farm residents to find a man who was last seen with a missing child.

The child was reported missing from Madume Primary School in Orange Farm, south of Johannesburg, on Tuesday’s afternoon.

Community members with crude weapons surrounded a wetland where they believed the suspect was hiding.

Several men were searched the reeds with machetes and axes.

They subsequently set the reeds on fire in a bid to bring the man out of his hiding place.

When the police arrived the scene, they concluded that the child was merely missing and not abducted.

The search became intense as community members began to throw stones.

Subsequent reports revealed that the child had been found safe and had united with its mother.

This intense search for the child was triggered by an incident that happened in the area after the bodies of two children, aged six and eight, were discovered in the area over the weekend after they were reported missing.
