Eight people killed after building collapsed in Lagos, Nigeria

On Monday, the emergency services mentioned that at least, eight people have died following the collapse of a building in Nigeria’s most populated economic state – Lagos.


The cause of the collapse still remains unknown, but it is well known that collapse of buildings are common in Africa’s most populous country, where a lot of citizens live in collapsed or uncompleted buildings.

Unfortunately, eight victims were recovered dead, six adult males and two females” the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA) tweeted after the collapse on Sunday.

The agency added that ten people sustained serious injuries and were rushed to the hospital, while 10 others were lightly injured.

The collapse took place at a building that was undergoing construction in Ikoyi, which is one of the wealthy areas in Lagos.

The cause of collapse is yet to be ascertained but efforts are presently ongoing by LASEMA and other responders towards salvaging the situation,” the city’s emergency services said.

In March, 20 people died after a building collapsed which housed a nursery and primary school.
