A 21-year-old woman is expected to come before the court in November with charges relating to trafficking and kidnapping, after she allegedly exchanged her baby girl with a woman in exchange for money.

The two women – Yamnkela Nkote and the 30-year-old Beauty Shonnei Simoto both came before the Cala Magistrate’s Court on Monday and were not granted bail.

Hawks spokesperson Lwando Zenzile said:

When the father enquired about his child’s whereabouts, Nkote claimed that the infant had passed on but was unable to point out the grave.”

’’She later admitted that she gave the baby to a lady in Johannesburg for a fee,” Zenzile said.

Zenzile further said the baby was discovered in Kempton Park by members of the Eastern Cape Serious Organised Crime Investigation team.

However, the infant has been handed over to her father.

Zenzile said both suspects were placed in custody after their brief appearance and will come before the court on November 2.
