We all have different postures when we sleep. We may sleep on our right side, left side or on our back.
However, according to research, the best posture to sleep in is on your left side as it does certain things to your body.
Here are some of them.
1. It helps in digestion
When you sleep on your left side, food waste can easily move to your large intestine and then your colon. When this happens, you will easily remove waste products from your body. Also, since the stomach is on the left side of the body, sleeping on your left side will help your pancreas and stomach hang properly.
2. It is good for the heart
When you sleep on your left side, the pressure on your heart is reduced and the blood flow to the heart will also improve.
3. It is very good for pregnant women
When a pregnant woman sleeps on her left side, it can improve the circulation of blood to her heart, relieve pressure on her back and increase the flow of blood to her foetus.
4. It can reduce heart burn
Heart burn is a burning and uncomfortable sensation that is felt when stomach acid enters the esophagus. However, sleeping on your left side can help to alleviate this since the stomach is on the left side of the body.
5. It may reduce back pain
Back pain can be caused by injury, stress, medical conditions, inflammation etc. However, sleeping on your left side can relieve this by reducing the pressure on your spine.
