Gumede: “I am a servant of the people”

on

Zandile Gumede has declared herself as a public servant and ANC knows she is a hard worker.

The former eThwekini Mayor also mentioned that ANC is not doing her a favour by appointing her as a member of the provincial legislature in KZN.

She became KZN MPL after she was sworn in on Wednesday, replacing the late Ricardo Mthembu.

Before she was appointed as a member of the provincial legislature, she was charged with corruption while serving as a Councillor in eThekwini.

“I am a servant of the people. I’m supposed to continue working for the people.”

It’s not a reward, it’s a continuation of working for the community because they know how hard I can work. There’s no reward, it’s just to open another door for me to continue working for the people,” Gumede stated.

She debunked the accusation that she didn’t coordinate the municipality to the best, but mentioned:

“Just be honest. Did you see any collapse in eThekwini? Leadership was very clear.”

“It was because of you, as the media people, that you went all out to make sure that the first woman mayor of eThekwini, you are denting my name. And also as the first person from the African National Congress, you are denting my name.”

The narrative that you are trying to do is that women can’t make it. I’ve made sure that people can see that women can make things happen.”
