Public Enterprises Minster Pravin Gordhan has revealed that government will sort out how & where to get more than R10 billion in the coming week. The money is needed for the start of the ‘new’ SAA.

Public Enterprises Director-General Kgathatso Thaludi said that government had made commitment to providing billions of rands for restructuring of SAA and now needs establishment of a mechanism through which to channel the funds.

The department said on Friday that priority will be taken accordingly as regards money in Finance Minister Tito Mboweni’s adjustment budget next month.

The DG said the Finance Minister will make announcement at the appropriate time – when the money finally arrives.

He further said that government won’t allow the failure of SAA.

The important message that we need to get across is that we will not allow SAA to be liquidated, that SAA shall be a stronger airline going forward to ensure that it performs the role of supporting the economy.”
