On Thursday morning, a motorist recklessly drove off the side of a busy road into the sea at Brighton Beach.
The police are now probing the case which is translated as “reckless and negligent” driving.
The driver who is believed to be in his late 60s with his female passenger of the same age were taken to the hospital.
Police spokesperson – Colonel Priscilla Naidu said some minutes before 7am, the police got the information that a car has crashed into the sea at Brighton Beach.
On the police getting there, it was explained that a white Volkswagen Golf had drove off John Tallon Road and boomed into the water, Naidu said.
She said the two occupants of the vehicle sustained injuries.
“The male driver sustained injuries to his mouth and back, while it is believed the woman may have broken a leg,” Naidu said.
The vehicle was taken out of the water by a private towing service.
“At this stage it is unclear exactly what happened.”
“The police have opened a case of reckless and/or negligent driving for investigation.”
